MD Health Pilates is a combination of reformer and floor Pilates that is tailored to each individual. A Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist will design a treatment plan for you that will specifically address “core stability” or “core strength” to aid in improving the biomechanics of your body. This helps improve your posture and ability to perform day-to-day tasks. Your treatment plan will also address key issues and strengthen the whole body.
MD Health Pilates is the integration of science & movement. Only qualified Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists are hired to be your personal instructors. Their ability to think from both a clinical and strengthening perspective is the key to making your tailored program successful.
What is Pilates?
Pilates was developed in the 1940's by a guy named Joseph Pilates. He used Pilates as an exercise technique to rehabilitate Second World War Soldiers. After the war, he used similar techniques to rehabilitate dancers in New York.
Nowadays, there are two main types of Pilates, Pilates on the floor or Pilates on Reformers. Pilates on the floor mainly utilises gravity and your own body weight for resistance. Pilates on the reformer on the other hand utilises the Pilates Reformer, gravity and your own body weight. The reformer also allows participants to increase or decrease the difficulty levels of each move as well as increase or decrease the resistance.
