When you think of surgery, you automatically assume that rehabilitation is required in order to make a full recovery. However, it is not the re-habilitation that makes the difference but rather the PRE-HABILITATION.
What is pre-habilitation? Pre-habilitation is all about preparing your body for surgery. Surgery is often the last resort for most people and it is also the most intrusive to both our bodies and lifestyle.
However, effective preparation can make surgery as pain-free as possible with little disruption to your life. Effective prehabilitation will assist your body in faster recovery, reduce your hospital stay, minimise rehabilitation time as well as complement the outcome of your procedure.
Why is pre-habilitation effective? With good strength base prior to surgery, your rehabilitation program can solely focus on the area directly affected by the surgery. This is why preparing your body for surgery can cut the recovery time to just weeks instead of months.
We are able to strengthen you from head to toe (remember that when you are in the hospital bed and inactive for several days, your muscles will degenerate). If you have decreased overall muscle strength before your surgery, you will have a prolonged and painful recovery.
What can we do for you? At MD Health, we will design a 13 week Pilates program addressing your key issues as well as strengthen your whole body. It will be a personalised and fully supervised program monitored by qualified Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists. We will work very closely with your surgeon to create the best possible outcome for you from your surgery. Many of our clients have undergone very intrusive surgery and our program has enabled them to make a very impressive recovery as well as making a huge difference to the outcome of their surgery.
